THE TRUMP 2024 THREAD

I sure do miss the days when Union members actually understood who it was that was ruining their ability to earn a living. I spent the first 20 years of my union career going to meetings listening to these guys talk about how bad NAFTA was and how much of a jerk Bill Clinton was for pushing it through and it would ruin our life eventually. And like watching a train in slow motion go off the tracks that is exactly what has happened since the advent of NAFTA and free trade to working people and Union members.

Due to the pact between the U.S., Mexico and Canada that was approved using fast track, America lost 1 million jobs. Those employment opportunities have been shipped across borders, gutting the American middle class. Many who have continued to work have seen their pay slashed and families who used to have a shot at the American dream are now living in a nightmare.

Well, do you believe in the idea of a closed shop or do you like right to work

Personally, I think a closed shop is fair

Right to work is like free trade. The term sounds nice, but really what it does erodes the middle class, unions and working peoples power. Both their money and their influence.

We have watched it for 50 years. Sure they sprinkle a little bit our way sometimes but power and money have been concentrated more and more into less and less people and corporations.

Shawn is correct.

I believe in free association and volunteerism where at all possible. I’m radically pro-union and believe a contract in the workplace is better than not.

I also believe in a light regulatory touch by the federal government where needed and a heavier hand on other areas.

Except the Federal government under recent Democratic administrations was full of regulations that were anything but a light touch. Redundant, designed to extract fees out of corporations.

The Biden administration put in more new regulations than any administration in history. Many of which were going to cost American families more in higher priced fuel, cars, etc. The mandate to move to EV's for example by 2035. Trump is requiring 12 regulations be removed for every new regulation created.

If you set a tariff at 3%, you collect three percent on all of your imports. If you set a tariff at 30% then nobody buys imports, so there’s no revenue collection. donald seems to believe he can impose prohibitively high tariffs and collect revenue, which won't happen.

Isn’t it amazing that the people that are screaming about Trump putting tariffs on other countries never once screamed about other countries putting tariffs on us. It’s almost like they didn’t get the talking point about tariffs until Trump used them..

Now tell the rest of it. If no one will buy at that price then the manufacturer will move his operation to the States where he can avoid the tariff and have access to the world's biggest market. He'll employ Americans who will pay taxes and spend their money in our economy, spurring further growth.

@Next Day Err was unaware of that. Just like he was unaware that free trade has not been good for the working people and unions. Same guy complains about right to work States but doesn’t understand the idea of fair trade. Free trade is just code for making working people poor.
along that line its always interesting to hear people here speak of a trump being a union buster when the past leadership has been busting unions by allowing companies to move jobs overseas.
