Time before UPS

Age quod agis
Call it Life before Brown.

It has been forever (for those wanting exact dates, look it up) since, I, AJBlakeJr started a thread.

First, AJ Blake Jr is my porn name.

First Pet- Apple Jacks or AJ
Street I grew up up on - Blake
And my younger sister used the porn name first….making me her Junior.

Done with the introduction

What and where did you work before your life turned Brown?

I understand you deserve my answer, but typing is a tedious activity, and I will answer after I get some bites on this thread.

That’s right folks. Tell us who you were and what you did before your identity became. I work for United Parcel Service…

I started UPS while in college (I was 21) so I was a student and worked a few retail jobs from 16+. Kmart, Sears, and I worked Home Depot while when I got a part time at UPS; until I got a full time bid.

I was born and breed to be a delivering machine. I belong to UPS forever. I bleed Brown. I can recite the 340 methods. I iron my uniforms. I am UPS

I had just got out of the Army and was killing time in Junior College when the girl I was datings brother called me up and wanted to know if I wanted to start at UPS the next morning at like 5:30 a.m.---I said why not and worked part time from Feb. until June when I went full time. I tried to go fulltime sooner but was told I needed to be married to be a full time driver. I got married on a Saturday and was a fulltime driver the following Tuesday.

When I got hired you had to have your Military obligations over (Vietnam draft you know)- you had to be 21 to be a driver (and I assume male because nobody had ever heard of a female driver) -and you had to be married (they wanted people that were committed and responsible). I don't know IF the marriage thing was Company wide but it was where I was. I was told right to my face to get married and I would be made full time. I had tried to go full time before but and they said "sorry".

When I got hired they could afford to be choosy. For years when there was an opening at my center 3/4 of the town would apply for that one job. I heard many times of someone calling in sick to their job so they could apply at UPS only to run into one of their own supervisors who was also applying. My center was a small one. When I started there were only 6 drivers and when I retired there was still only 23. We had as many as 900 people in town apply for one job.
