Put as much in that 401K as you can afford. My advice, do it now before you get that first check. You won't even realize what you're missing. The week before I hit full rate I bumped mine from 5% to 13%. For every $100.00 you put in weekly, you would've only seen $60.00 of it.

I assume that you have the Traditional 401k.

Mines at 20%. Maxed it out last year, trying to do it again this year. Once you get used to that money being gone, it's not so bad.

I am at 10% now with a balance just shy of $180K. My plan (hope) is to bump that up to 20% on the 1st of the year as I will only have 6 months of contributions before I retire and would love to get it above $200K.

We have Roth options on the Teamster one now, I think. My wife has her own Roth IRA. She's been saving since she was 22 years old. Taught me how to do it as well.
We have a ROTH through Vanguard. I like having some different choices. Honestly she didn't even know that I started one for her till about two years ago. She was quite surprised when she saw what she has in the account.

My daughter is the saver in their marriage as well. When she first met what's his name money would burn a hole in his pocket. He has become much smarter with his money since then.

I set up 529's for each of the grandchildren soon after they got their SSN's. $50/month should give each of them $10K when they are ready to go to college.

We 529's for our kids as well. 100$ each a month for college. Hope it holds up.

$100 for each kid every month??

Can you write all of that off? I thought that there was a limit on how much you could contribute and/or write off.

NY just started offering free tuition to state schools. Thankfully the 529's can be used to pay for books, laptops and other "school related" supplies.

Idk about the write off. But that's what our advisor set us at.

Deplorable.
I'm finally about to reach top rate after four years, was wondering if anyone could tell me what the exact amount is now? I've heard many different answers.

Congrats. Don't let your center manager guilt trip you into giving anything to the United Way now that you're making the big bucks.
