There will always be a need for oil since it's so pervasive in the economy. But cars are the big one. Might still need it for diesel for big trucks, ships, etc where electric power isn't practical. It's a big if but eventually the world will run out of oil and something needs to be developed. If this is real then we could probably stretch out existing oil reserves for millennia.
