Re-Raise says hmmmm. I play live poker a couple nights a week, My wife told me a couple of weeks ago I can play every night when I am divorced. (subliminal message there me thinks)
Never played online. Some of the guys I play with at the casinos say it is geared for action and I believe that to be a very real possibility.
By that I mean the hands could be programmed for large pots every so often rather then a random 52 card deck. For example a video poker machine runs on a similar type program. The site benefits when the amount of money running through the game and in turn their rake increases.
They could easily program 2 sets on the flop and then quads for the under set forcing all the money to go in no matter who is in the pot. I dont say they favor one player over another, just action.
Off my conspiratorial soap box now, I may still play.
Your concerns are valid and after the recent scandals involving sites like Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker, however, and you yourself can research this; The chances of set over set and quads over quads are much greater in live play than in online play. I have taken the worst "beats" playing live, and playing WSOP tournaments than I have ever taken playing online. You can check 2+2 and other forums, and they will tell you the same thing.
Where do you play live? I play live about two or three nights a week now that I have a decent schedule since I quit UPS and started teaching college. I enjoy playing live, but the lack of hands per hour makes playing @ Full Tilt much more profitable. Anyway, I hope you will join us on the 22'nd for the tournament, and maybe we can make it a weekly tournament!
