Venezuelans Eating Zoo Animals

so should america be invaded so we can restore democracy, take wall st execs to the guillotine, hang government war criminals, and liberate the workers???

if america criminally invades venezuela, they wont even have zoo animals to eat.

Naw, if things were as bad as you think, we would revolt. We are being invaded by a bunch of people from all over the world, because things aren't as bad as you think. Why on earth would we even waste our time and resources on Venezuela? Oil? Maybe... but we'd need some sort of excuse even if it was made up, like with Iraq.

war is terrorism

War is certainly terrible, but, unfortunately, not always avoidable. I wish we were as reluctant to go to war as we were with the world wars. And I think we should stay out of the world policing business, but then I'm accused of being isolationist. You can't please everyone.

i used to think that too, but ralph nader was talking about instances in history where things got bad and people did not revolt.

Bad is subjective. And we have a long standing history and tradition of revolution in this country.

Which subsequently was co-opted by Madison Avenue to brainwash consumers into believing men must be clean shaven and diamonds have significant value.

ralph nader was complaining about how passive the country is and how uncivilized it is compared to the rest of the first world.

and youre absolutely right about the second part. they essentially turned traditional american culture into consumer culture

Ralph's probably just upset that we aren't as willing to fight for his vision of a perfect world as he thinks we should be. I don't really have a problem with being less civilized, civility is concerning yourself with how others perceive you, but other people are idiots, in general, so why should we care what they think. Other first world countries may have their own way of doing things, and those ways may work for them, but they have their own sets of problems they must also deal with.

And the consumerism thing is true, it's the ultimate distraction, just like Rome used the gladiator fights to distract the populace. The more people who wake up to the fact that they are being manipulated, the less the manipulation will work. But, regardless of the problems with our society, it has afforded the highest number of people the oppurtinity to prosper than any others in history.

Then all those illegal immigrants must be deluded. Spread the message to them and tell them to stay home.

they are less bad than central america.

I like that you chose "less bad" than "better". In reality things here are much better, which is why people risk their lives to get here. I'm not saying we couldn't be even better if we fixed some problems, but even with the problems we have, people are still willing to put everything on the line to get here. I would prefer that people fight for change in their own countries. But I can't blame them for wanting to provide for their families where they can, and where they can is here, and there is no talking around that fact.
