Surely he does not have the votes in the House to get anything meaningful done on the gun control front. Lot's of Dem's in the South ran almost solely on an anti gun control platform.

Of course, but at least in the short term the likely ones he will be replacing are the liberal ones. Of course we may end up wishing RBG would not retire instead of wishing she would leave.

Be more concern about the lower court judges that he can appoint. Everyone watches the SCOUS , but hardly anyone follows who get the lower court judgeships. That is where he really can screw things up.

The next AWB (assault weapons ban, H.R. 1022) is already in committee. Pelosi has kept it there because up until recently it would have been a real fight to get it passed and Bush wouldnt have signed it. Now that there is a Dem majority in both Houses, Obama will sign whatever Pelosi puts in front of him and when it comes to gun control she is borderline psychotic. Gun owners in this country are about to get totally screwed.

You dont need to "ban" guns outright anyway. Obama has supported a 500% tax increase on ammo, and he proposed a law banning all gun sales within 5 miles of a park or school which would effectively zone all gun shops out of business. Add to that his support for the rights of cities to sue gunmakers for the criminal misuse of their products, and the "rights" of the people to keep and bear arms will become irrelevant since gun manufacturers, gun dealers and ammunition manufacturers will be sued and taxed out of existence.

In Obama's home state of Illinois you have to have a FOID (Firearms Owners ID Card) to buy, sell or posess any gun or ammo.

In other words, Obama believes that the excercise of a Constitutional right should require government permission and registration.

Imagine the outcry if the government decided that all citizens had to get a photo ID card in order to get permission to go to church, read a book, write a letter to the editor of a local newspaper, or excercise any of our other God-Given constitutional rights.
