Maybe at one time they tried to hide it, but it’s always been political.

As far as the confirmation process goes, that’s just a sign of how pathetic and dysfunctional the Senate has become.

Not really ... Joe Biden expressed the convention (called the Biden rule) way back in the 90's that a SCOTUS Appointment should not be made in the last year of a President's reign.
I understand that Dims are frustrated but they started it.
The Dims reaped what they sown ... cause and effect.

Just like Obama packed the US Circuit Court of Appeals and US District Courts by Sen. Reid changing the Senate rules (Nuclear Option), Trump is now filling the SCOTUS by an extension of the Reid Rule (Nuclear Option).

All the angst is a reaction by the Dims for the Nuclear Option which they initiated.

The Repugs still have a way to go to get the US Appeals Courts and US District Courts back in balance from the Dims packing the courts during Obama's reign.
