Looking back I don't recall being quite as concerned about both parties reaching an agreement before that contract expired. Maybe it was because it had only been 5 years since we had gone on strike not 16 and a lot closer to retirement........I don't know?
I'm still confident both sides will reach a tentative agreement before July 31st. But it may take longer than most of us would like and may require a strike authorization as it did on 2002 to "get the ball rolling".
STAY STRONG BROTHERS and SISTERS!!!
Here's a article detailing the negotiations of 2002:http://www.bls.gov/opub/cwc/cb20030620ar01p1.htm
