It needs to be pointed out that death is not the only qualifier for a Darwin Award contestant.

The only true qualifier is that the Darwin Award contestant makes himself incapable of reproduction.

So if Cletus and Wanda are doing something stupid and in the process only render themselves sterile, but still alive, that would also make them eligible for a Darwin Award.
