I thought it was because you needed the insurance benefits, your real estate investment portfolio tanked, you were just biding time until you started your new job that you were getting... Can't you just pick one story and stick with it? It would make it much easier for those keeping score at home.

Safety is costly. Training is really the cheap end. Implementing and enforcing is expensive. I can pretrip with a walk around in 30 seconds, or I can check everything that is required and take several minutes. To tell or order every driver to shut it off and pull the key at every stop is basicly free, to ensure every driver does it takes time, effort and money.
