Lunch skippers

I can't say I've ever skipped lunch, but on days I'd like to get home sooner I save 10 minutes then use that while I complete my DVIR and Turn In.

I was begged once by a center manager to skip my lunch or take it later because they had no one to cover business I couldn't get to on the route I was covering (was blown out). We went round and round and I kept telling him no. Finally got so pissed off I said no and hung up on him. Missed business. He never said a word to me about it and I also haven't covered that route since (over a year ago).

It's much like everything else, short sighted goals are more important than long term goals to the majority.

It's the same reason people go home and take no pays. It's the same reason runners run and gun. It's the same reason 401k participation is so low. It's the same reason people ask "how much is the payment" their whole life

It's also the same reason why I work so hard for what I have, I don't want to work here 30 years and have nothing to show for it, these guys give me inspiration to not be them.

Thanks chumps, see you in the barber chair delivering my Viagra.

Everytime these threads come up they always confuse me and it might be because I am in the west

For us we get 30min lunch and 2 15min breaks , when you punch out for lunch the diad shuts down and it won't let you key in a lunch either

Me I don't worry about people taking their lunch but that is because its only 30min now if we got a hour it would be different

The only time I work thru lunch & break is when I do a route blind. I get in fairly late, so I'll take my 10 min. paid & 5 mins. of my 20 min. unpaid when I get back to the bldg. then I get the fudge outta dodge.

That's definitely different than how it is where I am. When we go on the DIAD to Time Card: Break/Lunch it gives you four start and end slots for inserting your lunch. And it's not a definite punch either, you can manually input the time or edit it if needed. Which I do like because sometimes my lunches don't go as planned.

Sometimes(not all) skipping that lunch to get home early to BE WITH my family is worth more than that extra $$$.

I can agree with you when it comes to making it to a kids baseball game or something. But to do it every single day is a different story. There are the exceptions that even myself will take a short break but that is only after I have 2 9.5s and if I have something going on that is more important. Which is seldom.

Even then it is their problem for sending you on a route blind. They could have let a supervisor ride with you so they could establish some base knowledge with you. As long as you communicate telling them u will have missed businesses or service failures it is their problem. Not yours.

I'm in a bonus center. Skipping lunch has no effect on the take home pay. It will be a cild day in hell if the boss ever looks to sew if someone fudged their lunch .Stock market averaged about 3 percent since 2000.

Overtime is time and a half. Bonus is straight time. So, it does affect your take home pay.

WOOF WOOF
Skipping lunch to make bonus does not justify throwing your coworkers under the bus or violating the contract. What about the guy that has to cover your route and does it by the book? It's also a law now that you take at least 30 minutes.

I started as a driver last week, working through my lunch right now ( taking about 10 min to eat real quick) then back to work. Mostly just doing it to make sure I hit the numbers I need to hit during my 30 days so I can get that seniority. Once that happens, I plan on taking my lunch because this sucks!

Skipping lunch when you are trying to qualify is understandable and almost nobody objects to. Those first 30 days you have to do everything possible to qualify.

these scumbags are the reason the pension is going in the :censored2:ter because these idiots are working thru there lunch and not taking full lunches, and sorting during breaks and before start time, this company doesn't have to run as many routes because of you, multiply this times the buildings throughout the country and its a big problem. I estimate anywhere from 30-40 percent of our union brothers are doing this in one form of another, and like the griff said before in the last 10 yrs it has gotten progressively worse in total correspondence to the pension going down down down the :censored2:ter, you dip:censored2:s keep this up and you will be looking at 2000 a month after 30yrs of service and age 62 good luck with that... I suggest you grab your nuts and start doing the right thing before its to late, and its getting to that point sooner than you think

That is fine during your probationary period. Once you make seniority take your lunch between the 4th and 5th hour. Don't be one of these jokers who take their lunch at the end of the day.

Show up at 7:55.
Grab diad, wait for pcm
Go to truck and sort air till the other trucks get out of the way
Take my 15 paid around 1
Get back to the building around 5
Go home.
Get paid for the work I did. The only thing I'm saving the company is traveling time for when I would have had to break off.

I go to work so I can have money to do things in my free time. My life is not my work.
