Sleep medication for drivers

thanks for no help. LOL. look I have sleep PROBLEMS. I can lay down a full 8 hours and not fall asleep. I can eat all the benadryl in the world, melatonin, drink hot milk, listen to relaxation cds it doesn't help. I quit the meds and now i'm in full withdrawal and SHOCK. very very bad decision I mad. Now I don't think I can drive at all even if I reinstate the medicine my body is in such shock I'll be in withdrawal.

"I can't sleep without my sleep aids" is a alarming statement in and of itself. Sleep aids are meant to be used on a temporary basis and if you need them on a daily basis I think you may need to see a specialist.

I have found that if I am having trouble falling asleep I start counting backwards from 41,000.

Here is the sleep trick for a wanna be driver.

Do what a UPS driver does everyday.-(basically wear your self out)-
Walk 2 miles a day, while carrying a 1lb to 150lb pkg.
Drive 20 to 300 miles a day, stopping every 3 minutes and stair step down three steps, while carrying a 1lb to 150lb pkg, drop pkg and step up three steps.-(repeat this process at a minimum of at least 100 times a day)-
This is just basic training,to gear your body to the task.
Do this for 3 weeks and drink plenty of water.
Two things will happen.
Your pee will be clean as spring fed mountain water stream.
You will sleep.
The average UPS driver hand delivers 1 million pounds a year.
The average UPS driver drives 50,000 miles a year.
The average UPS driver walks 125 miles a year.

That is just the physical part of the equation.
The mental part of this job/career is a whole different thread.

Ask your Doc about Seroquel. Its actually a Bi-polar med, but when used in much lower doses 12-50mg its the best sleep aid ever, and non addictive. Doctors prescribe it all the time even though "sleep aid" is not one of its published uses.

Also, the dot physical place will have a prescription medication form that you should get before hand. It's for cases like this, and prescriptions like vicodin, klonopin etc. This form needs to be filled out by your prescribing doctor stating that you are only to take it(the drug in question) during non work hours, and that it will not affect your dot performance.

My thinking is it is a kind of "release of liability" for the dot doc, since your own doc is the one providing you care with the knowledge you are a dot driver.

Was it just mine or do drivers use their helpers to take a break from physical work? It made me annoyed when he used me to walk while sitting around in the truck doing nothing.

That's it? That's less than mile a day.

So, you are telling us that a union member was doing his job correctly? Is that one of those jewels that you would spit out on that useless and sponging last day inside with management?

My kids are vampires also. Can't sleep at night but out like a light at noon. Here's a thought. turn off your damn phone and go to sleep. And lay of the Starbucks, Mt. Dew and red Bull.

to the OP ,, try painting your room in a dark color and get those solid dark blinds for your windows. NO coffee 4 hrs before bed,then turn on a dull tv show in the bedroom !! Any Liberal leaning show will do,or C/Span or a PBS station would help..If not take a TYlenol PM good luck !!

oh yea as a married man I've found that these site are the key to a great marriage. When she is tired or has a head ach I rub her back or her head and head of to the basement when she passes out. Five minutes later I feel like I just got laid and I'm not all tired out sweaty or pissed off because she didn't want to get it on.
