RBrown, the taxes I speak of were not for middle class working americans. Those cuts, just like the cuts for the rich that Reagan gave away PLUNGED our nation into HUGE debt in 2001.

If that is true, then we must accept much less from our government. Less subsidies to farmers, to businesses, less safety standards, less stability of markets. And before you sign on to such a love of free markets, consider the full and complete ramifications of that. Few would really want that. What they mean is that they want government to do what they want it to do and nothing more, nothing less...until they change their mind.

But in this representative republic, we have decided what we want government to be. We just don't want to pay for it and want cuts made only that are hard on the "others".

BUSH 11 trillion when he left office.

OBAMA 16.7 trillion as of today.

I think he meant that Obama isn't done running up the debt yet. He has almost 3 more years to pass 22 trillion in national debt.
But let us not forget that the President only sets the tone for national spending, that CONGRESS spends the money. And that typically our country usually gives the presidency to one party and congress to the other (or splits congress between the two parties).
GW Bush mostly had a dem congress (that and 9/11 is reason for spending too much).
And Clinton mostly had a Republican Congress, which is why spending went way down. (especially for welfare.)

If that is true, then we must accept much less from our government. Less subsidies to farmers, to businesses, less safety standards, less stability of markets. And before you sign on to such a love of free markets, consider the full and complete ramifications of that. Few would really want that. What they mean is that they want government to do what they want it to do and nothing more, nothing less...until they change their mind.

I do want less from my government. I only want national defense, infrastructure improvements like roads, bridges and dams and national parks. I want police and fire service. I even would like an optional social security system. (I would opt out by the way because I trust me planning for my retirement more than some elected official) I also want a 2 year safety net (welfare) system for those that fall on hard times. But I am tired of paying for people to live a life time on welfare, food stamps and section 8 government housing.

When the founders rise from the dead to cast their votes, they will have their say. Until that time, we have a country to run that is nothing like they envisioned and hasn't been for 150 years.

Then I would move to a third world country where they have no programs like that if I were you. Otherwise you will have to deal with it until corporate America changes the way it does business.
