US solider freed from captivity in Afghanistan

Who said he was on patrol? He walked off post and went either AWOL or deserted. If the government tried to claim it was a war situation and Taliban aren't terrorists, then by definition AWOL = deserter.

Bergdahl had claimed in videos that he had lagged behind a patrol and that is what led to his capture.

He hasn't been convicted of anything yet. If the military's top officials says he is innocent until proven guilty, then we all should give him his day in court.
Oh, he'll have his day in court.......if he still refuses to speak English, he will even be given an interpreter.
I hope it's not delayed years & years.

The government story that he fell behind on a patrol is laughable to anyone who has deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq. A patrol isn't a leisurely stroll through the woods or the city, we're always in contact and keep track of one another. He didn't lag behind, he upped and left in the middle of the night, he deserted and got people killed. If Bradley Manning has to rot away in prison for 20 years, so does this kid.
So how does a soldier simply walk out of camp? Dereliction of duty by fellow soldiers?

Soldiers stationed at FOB's know where the blind spots are in the guard. He also is aware of when the guards switch shifts. Combined with the fact that Afghanistan is dark as hell and the terrain is incredibly mountainous doesn't make it mission impossible for some to walk off base.

It just seems like his fellow soldiers would just as soon have him branded a traitor and leave investigation undone. Why? What will an exhaustive investigation turn up?

Susan Rice must be an incompetant idiot. She will repeat anything she's told and will repeat it on TV with a straight face. Is she that hard up to keep her job?

If he got your buddies killed I'd guess if you were honest you wouldn't be happy either. In any case the men in his unit have no authority to stop an investigation.

if you want to go there, you may as well say the US government got their buddies killed.

Can you name those who were actually killed because they were looking for him? This seems to be a right wing talking point that cannot be backed up by actual facts.

In any case, we don't leave soldiers behind.

Maybe because they already know what the investigation will turn up? If anyone has insight into what really happened it would be his fellow soldiers. Even the Pentagon didn't list him as a POW because of his desertion.

The white house is working overtime now to pour gallons of cologne on this turd, and no matter what it still stinks.

From The NY Times:

The furious search for Sergeant Bergdahl, his critics say, led to the deaths of at least two soldiers and possibly six others in the area. Pentagon officials say those charges are unsubstantiated and are not supported by a review of a database of casualties in the Afghan war.

...

A review of the database of casualties in the Afghan war suggests that Sergeant Bergdahl’s critics appear to be blaming him for every American soldier killed in Paktika Province in the four-month period that followed his disappearance.

...

Rear Adm. John friend. Kirby, the Pentagon spokesman, said that there was a larger matter at play: The American military does not leave soldiers behind. “When you’re in the Navy, and you go overboard, it doesn’t matter if you were pushed, fell or jumped,” he said. “We’re going to turn the ship around and pick you up.”

Get him home, and let the facts come out.

NY Times trying to spin things to support Obama. Unnamed sources and innuendo but no facts to support their claims when there are many sources (with hard facts) which contradict what NY Times is claiming.
