The UPS Foundation Sets Global Goal To Plant 15 Million Trees By The End Of 2020

Awards $2.5 million in environmental grants

The UPS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of UPS (NYSE: UPS) which leads the company’s global citizenship programs, today announced  it will fund the planting of 15 million trees by the end of 2020. Since 2012, The UPS Foundation and its environmental partners have planted more than 5 million trees in 46 countries.

The UPS Foundation also awarded more than $2.5 million in grants to 12 non-profit organizations dedicated to environmental sustainability. These awards will support programs that advance environmental research and education, carbon reduction and energy conservation – all vital to economic growth and community stability.

Teamsters Vow To Stand With UPS Pilots On Picket Lines If The Independent Pilots Association Strikes United Parcel Service

In an unqualified show of support, James Hoffa, General President and Ken Hall, General Secretary-Treasurer of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, pledged to the Independent Pilots Association that “if a strike is necessary, we will not cross your lines, but will stand with you on them.”

This commitment from Hoffa and Hall came in a letter to IPA President, Captain Robert Travis. “The International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents 250,000 workers at United Parcel Service,” said Captain Travis.  “This unflinching support from the Teamsters on the eve of our strike vote is exactly what UPS needs to see – we all stand together in support of a new pilot contract.”

Nearly 42 percent of high school students have texted or emailed when in the driver’s seat at least once in the past 30 days, according to a 2014 survey conducted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Adding to this startling statistic, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports phone use when behind the wheel causes one in every five teen distracted driving fatalities. Digital distractions along with failure to learn safe driving techniques have both contributed to motor vehicle crashes becoming the leading cause of death among teens in the United States.
