UPS releases 4Q 2021 earnings – UPS

UPS (NYSE:UPS) today announced fourth-quarter 2021 consolidated revenue of $27.8 billion, an 11.5% increase over the fourth quarter of 2020. Consolidated operating profit was $3.9 billion, up 91.0% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, and up 37.7% on an adjusted basis. Diluted earnings per share were $3.52 for the quarter; adjusted diluted earnings per share were 35.0% above the same period in 2020.

For the fourth quarter of 2021, GAAP results include a total charge of $59 million, or $0.07 per diluted share, comprised of a non-cash, after-tax mark-to-market (MTM) pension charge of $14 million and after-tax transformation and other charges of $45 million.

What’s the story: UPS is putting words into action to support and empower Black communities with new strategic partnerships, more funding to grassroots organizations and increased volunteerism in underserved communities.

UPS driver named an America’s Road Team Captain – UPS

What’s new: Kevin Byrnes, a New Jersey feeder driver, was selected an America’s Road Team Captain by the American Trucking Associations Jan. 18.

Why it matters: Kevin is among 22 Captains, picked from more than 2,000 candidates, to serve as a trucking industry ambassador. He’ll travel the country to spread a message of safe driving, while teaching about the industry and its opportunities.

Meet Kevin: The Parsippany facility professional has four major reasons he cares so much about safety – his boys. He and his wife, Laura, have 18-year-old triplets (Joseph, Matthew and Christopher) and a soon-to-be 17-year-old (Jonathan).

“I need to come home every night to my family,” said Kevin, a Circle of Honor member with 30 years of safe driving. “I want to hug my boys when I get home every day and say goodbye when I leave.”

En Route To The Expo, a new video series launched by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with Entrepreneur Middle East, is aiming to showcase how the business community in the UAE has benefited from Expo 2020 Dubai, which is running untill March 31, 2022.

In this edition of En Route To The Expo, we spoke with Alan Williams, Vice President Expo 2020 Sponsorship and Operations, UPS, who shed light on the global company’s initiatives and activities related to the mega event, as well as his views on the future of logistics.

“For UPS, [Expo 2020 Dubai is an ideal opportunity] to showcase the future of logistics, and to do that, we have partnered with entities who are part of the Expo family: governments, participating countries, and other partners that we are working with through our exploration programme,” Williams said. “Right from the start, we wanted to align the UPS programme at Expo 2020 Dubai with the UAE Government’s plans for sustainability for the future,” he added. “UPS has a goal of being carbon-neutral by 2050; everything we are doing showcases the future of logistics and is really planned to demonstrate how we can be a great partner to the country, but also our industry and the environment.”
