Where's the morale at you guys?
Don't know how long you've worked here, but lets put it this way...company picnics, bbq's at the end of peak, t-shirts for reaching safety goals, a handshake, a pat on the back...these are things that used to be common to us older guys and now are non existent. For all intents and purposes UPS has the its culture. It's lost the main reason why people use to get their friends jobs at UPS and we used to happily claim UPS was the best company to work for. Even a handshake for a job well done. There's only a few sups at work that thank their employees for a job well done. The rest of them expect the hustle and that's about it.

Today we had three drivers get thier 30 years service awards. This consisted of an on road stacking them up with about 12 others telling the center in a PCM about them and then telling all 15 drivers to go get their award.... AMAZING! This is how we show respect for a 30 year career at UPS? Two of these men are in the circle of honor. We work in the building housing the district manager, they like to tell us he is only 22 steps away. So he couldnt be bothered to walk down 22 steps to show recognition for 30 year employees? And they wonder why drivers have a bad attitude.
People will one day realize that you are just a number to UPS. If you think for one minute that they care about you, you are sadly mistaken. You think that one on car sup or that one center manager is your buddy, wait till they escort you out and then they try to explain it wasn't them. They are robots, yes sir, no sir people. How many of your children's games or graduations have you missed cause they wouldn't get you help and less senior people beside you clocked out two hours before you. How many times have you asked for help with over 70's and they don't have anybody to send to you, but when you get hurt there quick about telling you what the contract says and that you didn't follow methods. I mean come on. These people don't give a crap about you. There is someone younger and faster than you that is chomping at the bit to go full time. YOUR A NUMBER!!!!

My 30 years of service came and went 3 weeks ago,no award,no mention of it by anybody.Thats ok,I know this is a different company and to them I am just old and need to go away.I will soon provide them with their wish and never look back...
My 30 years came and went sometime last year and still haven't received any of their recognition crap. I'm on a satellite route and expect one day a plaque will show up in the TP60 along with a piece of months old Founders Day cake.
Found out yesterday through one of my locals business agents that my pension will increase by $400 a month if I work until age 60. They might just have to put up with this old fart for another two years.

Our center has a couple Circle of Honor drivers.

I guess after reading this we're lucky they still call our names out. You get a hand-shake if you put your hand out, but because of the "us vs. them" attitude... you know how that goes. A few will take their award and throw it on the ground, after all, it's just a piece of paper anymore.

My 5-year milestone, the paper in between the two blued together plastic blocks was all wrinkled, and the plastic was all scratched up on it, too.

The regional has been in our center a lot lately, he said that if we didn't have any accidents or injuries until the end of the year, he was going to do a steak bbq cookout thing for us..... we'll see. I don't see the people I work with getting us there...

I know one driver that threw his last award which was 20+ years of safe driving in the trash after it was handed to him by a safety committee member who EVERYONE hated, and had maybe 7 years on the road.

Isn't this what every driver does? It's a pin and a piece of paper in a cardboard frame.

And we wonder why management doesn't bother to hand out rewards.
It's the few dipsticks that affect the rest.

Would you take any honor in being handed an award from a back stabbing, liar who looks down on you on a daily basis? Or maybe you have a respectable boss. I for one wouldn't feel good accepting it from my boss. He can chock on it for all I care.

I'm not so insecure that I have to be a big, bad macho dude every chance I get.
I would accept it and do whatever I wanted to do with it once I got home.
Not a big deal really.
It doesn't have to be that hard.

Has NOTHING to do with being big and macho.

I am not like management. I don't put on a dog and pony show like everything is OK in front of people when I know its not. Did he go a little far? Maybe but it gets under my skin when people paint this picture like everything is OK and EVERYONE knows its not. Fake ass people drive me crazy.

I had a boss that was such an @#$@$ and I mean to the point where he should have legitimately been fired more than a handful of times from the ***** he pulled. Funny thing is I had more respect for him than most because he was up front with me. He told me "I'm an $$$hole, that's who I am and always will be". These bosses today come at you with a smile and handshake only to stab you in the back when you turn around. It's a pet peeve I guess.

Here's a nice little anecdote to go along with this:

Recently had one of the super-big regional big-wigs in our center. They went out with the on-roads to one of our bigger shippers in the area. They told the regional how the driver was like family to them, took awesome care of them, was basically someone they couldn't live without. We're talking they laid it on thick for the driver, and rightly so. He's an awesome guy.

So at the PCM, the regional didn't bother to get up in front of us to talk, didn't say anything to us. I did hear that a few of the Suites and Ties went up to the driver, and the district said "Hey, you're doing a great job out there, and we want to recognize you at the PCM for all your hard work and how great you are."

To which the driver replied "Oh, really? Because this schmuck over here has been trying to fire me for the past two weeks, has been harassing me so much I had to file a grievance for harassment for the treatment I've been receiving. So tell me again, why am I getting this??? Because he seems to think quite the opposite of my job performance."

So what did he get? He got a small (not even a full size card) with a small note written in it. No gift card, no invite out to a nice dinner... NOTHING. Just another piece of paper.

Pretty damned sad. This guy helps the company make THOUSANDS per day when he picks up at this business, and he got another piece of paper.

I hope he framed it, and hangs it in his package car.

Already got me a UPS watch , back in 2006 .
Has a outer face that flips up to be use as a magnifying glass and had a small yellow led light that only worked a couple of time.
One of these days I'll change the battery to get it working again .

I made 25 years safe driving in February of this year. It sat on a shelf for 6 weeks until I asked center manager about it . He handed it to me and said goodbye. My satisfaction came from the fact that I can get under his skin that good. He made 2 major runs at getting rid of me and didn't get it done either time. That is job satisfaction.
