It's amazing how many people don't understand this. That was the first thing a couple of people asked me after they were told about the bonus, "But isn't it going to be taxed at a really high rate"? So I told them that at the end of the day it's not actually going to be taxed at a rate any different from your tax bracket. All income above your bracket will be taxed at the higher rate, but only that income, not ALL your income.
