The above links show that a EEOC case is in action and that is because UPS discriminated towards an individual whom had a beard. It turns out that the gentleman was a muslim and UPS failed to promote him because of his beard.
With that being said any person may grow a beard at UPS, due to the fact that no company shall discriminate against an individual based upon religious rights. The company may NOT dig into your claims of your religion and no where in the constitution does it mean you have to adhere to all parts of ones religion. Thus the company was in complete violation and that is how the EEOC got involved and if the company was smart they would adhere to ever changing society and the present of religion being more outspoken and change their policy or continue to be in court for violating basic rights of an individual and other discriminatory cases.

I heard they already issued new guidelines for management saying beards are ok because of some hub in Minnesota only being able to hire muslims

I have no issue with the company guidelines, what I am saying is that the company has known about these discrimination potentials for many years but have chose not to act upon changing federal regulations (EEOC, Equal opportunity employer etc)... From women rights to pump in a private location, to not promoting people based on beards, to the hanging of a fake dummy from a rope in Kentucky... see the issue is whether you agree with it or not... one must adhere to these rules set by the government....

To answer those guidelines you speak of... yes they do have guideline which are going to end up changing due to discrimination based on religion, sex or even blatant racism; you say that its the companies choice... why yes it is but they have to stick to the LAW (something UPS has a hard time doing)... but if we go by that rule you mention go by company guidelines and not by the law... well than mr drive you won't make 6 figures anymore and oh the union will be kicked out... oh that wouldn't be okay right... oh ya they can't do that because of LAWS that are in place that the company must follow
