If you want to hide the ones that get derailed, you might as well just turn in your avatar and screen name and join another forum. EVERY thread gets derailed here. I'm guilty of it and have had threads derailed. Just a fact of life in here everyone has done it at some point including you. The uninteresting ones I would also like to hide but as such...they are here to stay.
