One of the first things that I noticed when I started out as a loader was that the older package drivers mostly drove small package cars. They simply hold less packages. My first route was an industrial park out of a straight truck. We call a 24' box truck a "van" in these parts. Delivered 400 and picked up 600 with other drivers having to cover late pickups on that route. My third route that I had for just one year had 65 stops and 200 miles a day on a country route. That P-500 had one shelf that was empty, that was nice. The more miles the better, less time to handle packages.
