Over here, we had the same thing happen. UPS canceled a night sort and all employees transfered to other shifts.
The good news is that they kept their seniority. Company seniority and building/shift seniority.
The bad news is that our contract only allowed them to "bump" the least senior person on their new shift. Although they were able to bid into better positions as they became available.
It all comes down to your local supplements and riders. But I doubt they would allow someone to just bump anyone on the sort.
