I mean republicans are just in fantasyland. This is the problem of large numbers. Once you start spending over 700billion every year on the military and your GDP is over 21 trillion, to get your military spending to be 5% of gdp, we’d have to spend over 1trillion dollars which would be a huge increase in military spending, why would we do that? Just to be in the top 15 in terms of military spending per gdp? Why is that a goal? How does it improve our safety and protection? Plus the implications of that kind of ramping up in military spending by America would have huge impacts on other nation’s military spending and may have a destabilizing effect. Just a dumb way to look at military spending.

Yes republicans do use military spending as government economic stimulus, but if you want to escalate things with other nations increasing our military by 300billion a year for no reason would signal that the US is gearing up for military conflicts and would cause tensions to increase and would probably lead to other nation's increasing their military spending, which dumb
