Do you remember......
I remember, as a kid, going to get new shoes at the department store and stepping up on this contraption and putting my feet inside to get them x-rayed for fit. At least I think it was an x-ray. We had Buster Brown and Red Goose shoes.
Yep, and all the store assistants died of X Ray poisoning.
Remember the first time you ever wore high heels? I never put a pair
on until I left the house for my high school graduation, not realizing
they were anything to fear. For those of you who haven't had the
pleasure, wearing stiletto's without practicing in them first is like walking
on stilts. Balancing on your toes with your ankles wobbling and trying to keep your legs straight made for one long, painful day. I fell about every third step manuvering across the football field but my "escort", whom I'd known all my life, was great. He told me this would be one heck of a home movie his dad was filming...![]()
I'd like to see that. Is it on YouTube yet?![]()
Was his name Al Bundy?I remember going to the shoe store and the guy would actually measure both feet and bring out several pairs of shoes for you to try on.
HAHA! 'Fraid not. My buddy (escort) Jimmy never even got to see it. He had a falling out with his folks about becoming a musician and broke off all ties. He and his wife actually became famous for their "cowboy gypsy music".
I hope you're going on the cruise, Sammie, you're definitely someone I'd like to talk to.

My mother wouldn't take our tribe to buy shoes, she'd have us stand on a piece of paper and trace the outline of our feet. I guess that was her X-ray. I don't think I was in a shoe store until I was 11 or 12 years old.
Just how large was this tribe?
There were 5 of us, all boys, when I was growing up. I can only imagine the reaction I would have gotten from my father if I would have asked for a $50 pair of Nikes. We didn't go without but there were not a lot of extras. Going to McDonald's on Sunday was a big deal.
Don't even get me started. There were 5 in our tribe too. Four boys and my spoiled little sister. One summer my youngest brother wore a hole in his PF Flyers before the 4th of July. He was told to go bare foot on except on Sunday, he had church shoes.
Anyways the bottoms of his feet were so tough he used to make money at different playgrounds by betting people he could walk on broken glass and not get cut. My dad got wind of this stunt and toughened up his back side for being stupid. We all laugh about it now when the drinking stories start!
