Driving questions and contract.

I hope someone can help me with a few questions.

I am currently a saturday air driver. I believe the exact title would air exception. I make 12.50hr.

I plan on going full time, If economy comes around! Anyway, I understand that when I do get my chance at full time, that I will have a probation period. I think it is 60 in 90? Would that be working days? Also, does my air time count towards the 3 year progression?

Also, can you point out exactly where in the contrat I can find this info?

I'll help with the progression. Your time as air driver will not count. Look under WAGES in your contract.

Thanks, just as i thought. the reason I asked was becuase i found this post, while I was trying to research my question regarding the probation period.

By doing Sat. air, you will have a legg up when you do drive as the DIAD will not be a stumbling block for you. That way you can concentrate on the Methods better. Area knowledge will be the other big thing that will come with time, but again, being on the road for air, that may be easier for you than someone that hasen't.

I also did peak driving. Knock on wood, have yet to have any late air's. Still trying to figure out the "make book" making seniority,

i always feel sorry for the little guys

here at freight the dockworkers now start at $10.50 an hour

when we were overnite they started at almost $14

and i know the preloaders over there at ground make literally 1/3 of what the ft drivers make on the hour

overnite was such a great place that is why they busted the union and had nothing but scab scumbags driving for them

From what I just read sitting on the can, it appears to be 30 working days in a 90 day period.

it is 30 working days the company has do a ride to tell you if you made it or not, if you work beyond the 30 days without the ride you are automaticly on the list.

Where I am at in the Southern Region, if pays to become a cover driver first before you become full time. A cover driver makes 85% of FT driver pay so when you become full time and begin progression, you stay at your current level of income until progression catches up. I went full time in June of last year after being a cover driver for over 4 years. While I have not gotten any increases in my hourly rate (except contract raises) since going into progression, I did not have to start out at the much lower FT driver rate. Which is good because I would've had to take a cut in pay to get a promotion to full time status.

Reading the contract might be boring, but it is time well spent. For the reading impaired, there is a 'table of contents' that allows you to find pretty much what you are looking for.

If you were looking for something obscure, it might be faster to ask on BC. Something like pay and progression, unless you have the reading level of a kindergartner, it is faster to look it up in the contract.
