Actually it seems most presidents seem to follow an established routine dealing with declassification.
Sure,

“The accumulation of recent congressional testimony has made it clear that the Obama administration itself engaged in the wholesale destruction and “loss” of tens of thousands of government records covered under the act as well as the intentional evasion of the government records recording system by engaging in private email exchanges. So far, former President Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Attorney General Lynch and several EPA officials have been named as offenders. The IRS suffered record “losses” as well. Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy called it “an unauthorized private communications system for official business for the patent purpose of defeating federal record-keeping and disclosure laws.”

Clearly, America’s National Archives is facing the first major challenge to its historic role in preserving the records of the United States. What good is the National Archives administering a presidential library, like the planned Obama library in Chicago, if it is missing critical records of interest to scholars? And what’s to prevent evasion of the entire federal records system by subsequent administrations to suit current politics rather than serve scholars for centuries to come?”

president berger? dont remember him.

you dont get it do you?
the president has ultimate declassification authority. everyone else has different rules they have to live by.
Even if we take that point as a fact, nobody has the right to remove government documents. YOU CANNOT REMOVE GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS OR DESTROY THEM. Trump is cornered.

Why are you people even pretending it mattered to the FBI whether there were classified documents?

They don't care about "top secret" documents. They knew they were there for 2 months. They haven't even released documents that were formally declassified by written executive order.

The FBI doesn't care about the law, they think they are the law and they can do whatever they want. You people are so naive.

This is for you everyday-error
If everything you feel is true how much trouble do you think Trump will be in?

In 2005, he was fined and sentenced to two years of probation plus community service for unauthorized removal of classified material from the National Archives. He gave up his license to practice law.

Wow a fine and probation lol, and he wasnt president!

Maybe it’s not about how much trouble Trump will be in. That might depend on the nature of the documents.

I still can’t get past the “declassification” part. If that’s true, Trump or anyone else should be able to make the public today. And if they are sensitive in nature, why are they being stored in a billionaires private estate with no formal backup? If they truly belong to “all of us” and are declassified, why was the National Archives “in negotiations” to get them back?

I think I’ve already told you I don’t know the legality because the lines have been so blurred by both sides I think that’s the fairest assessment I can give you. i’m not cheerleading either way just pointing it out.

It's not.
It was just a fishing expedition to grab everything.

You people failed for years to take out Trump.
The fascist Democrat January 6th witch hunt turned up nothing, and this is a last chance before the midterms when the tables turn.

Turned up nothing? I would be careful about that because the investigation is ongoing.

I would hitch your wagon to DeSantis before this all blows up in the right's face. Trump's going down.

You've been checkmated and then act like this is all no big deal.

Trump is facing real trouble. I think it's hilarious he's finally being cornered but I still don't think he'll be held properly accountable in the end.
Sandy Burger physically shoved classified documents down his pants and stole them and got a fine lol what kind of crack are you smoking? Why don’t you go mow the lawn or do something productive because this is nothing.

The kooks are out and about today! In Phoenix, armed to the teeth at the FBI field office. In Washington at the Capitol barricades, crashing their car, engulfing it in flames and then shooting themselves!
MAGA! MAGA! MAGA! lol

Wow. You just justified the FBI raid without intending to. If that’s what presidents do, it should probably be put to an end.

trump said he declassified those documents. there is no one with a higher level of authority to dispute him.
your phrasing can call it a billionaires private estate but its also the home of a former president and protected by secret service agents 24/7.
