FedEx Pension lies

True. Without getting too specific I wonder if some of the more mountainous regions are more isolated than the beach and port areas? A couple of articles I read about general retirement abroad claim to forgo Costa Rica as Europeans are buying up the market and prices are soaring. Ironically enough, Socialist Governed France is claiming retirement in it's southern region will run you a fair 1,700 US dollars a month. With the closest replica of modern living compared to a southwestern Asian country.
The bulk of Mexico's population lives in the 5000' to 8000' elevation areas of it's central plateau. Most don't use heat or ac as it's comfortable most of the time. Costa Rica used to be THE place to live, with most of it's population living on it's 4500' central plateau. About 50,000 Americans are there but many have left as it got much more expensive and they eliminated most of the perks of it's pensionado program. Panama and Ecuador are the places that get the most press now for retiring overseas on a budget. Panama offers the most perks but most of the country is hot and humid. Ecuador has various climates and probably the most popular expat town outside of Mexico in Latin America, Cuenca.

OK, tell us how to get around the Railroad Labor Act. Talk is easy, we need Congressional action to get a union. Not going to happen under a Republican Congress. And didn't happen under a Democrat Congress with a Democrat President to boot.

Without changing the content of this thread...Some Democratic congressmen DID try to make the change, however the Republicans only funded part of the government that year and just like the recent DHS funding issue, they only funded part of the FAA and that was to help Fred avoid having the "express" wording removed ...If I remember FedEx spent over $6 Million in order to "re educate" members of congress...some would call this bribing.

Do you remember all the "brown bailout" videos that FedEx put out on you tube and other social media??? Had UPS stood up and set the record straight that would have helped, but the big problem was the Republicans and the Tea party, that large corporations have bought and paid for.

We already covered this extensively when it happened. The Democrats were in charge of both the House and Senate and the Presidency. The issue was an attachment to the FAA funding bill, the Express Employees Relief Act, which would allow FedEx Express employees to be placed under the National Labor Relations Act instead of the Railroad Labor Act. FedEx lobbyists contributed much more than $6 million, heard as much as $32 million, to congressional campaign coffers, mostly Democrats, to not vote on the bill but keep tabling it for a future vote. The Republicans captured the House in 2010, ending any chance that it would pass. To pour salt on the wound not only was the Express Employees Relief Act removed from the FAA bill, but the Democrats agreed to increase the % of employees in a craft needed to sign union cards to force a union vote from 35% to 50%. Sorry but everyone knows the Republicans are anti-union, it was the Democrats who let us down when they had the power.

The "Brown Bailout" campaign leveraged the ire of the American public who had just experienced companies like GM and AIG take huge government loans to stay afloat and then give much of that cash away to their executives as bonuses. I believe the competition did answer with a 'Fedex drivers aren't pilots' campaign, but it never really got nearly as much heat as tossing the word 'bailout' around did. Brilliant (albeit misleading) marketing.

Yes, it was brilliant, but a total lie. If anything, UPS should have rolled-out a Purple Bailout campaign to inform voters about Fred's RLA and Ground "gifts" from lawmakers. Plus, the guy in the ad seriously needed a bottle of shampoo.

Agreed. UPS should have sued Smith over the Brown Bailout campaign.

Mr FedEx,I don't know if you still work for the company but remember when we had the tradtional pension plan ended? At the time,we had the option to stay in the traditional or go with the Portable Pension Plan and as one noted the "Porta Potty Pension Plan." The majority of us "old timers" decided to stay in the traditional and a year or so later,we got "flushed" into the Porta Potty Pension Plan, taking our decision and nullifying it. We lost on that because any time a company changes things it's not good for the employee but for the company.
You are so right. Its a life lesson not to be forgotten. One can apply this lesson to everyday life as well. If a person offers to do something for you or suggest something you should do, out of the blue, its always to benefit them. I held out on opting into the porta potty savings account. I imagine they had to offer the option to change over because perhaps there was some sort of contract in place. So when the contract/deadline was finished, they scrapped the pension flushed everyone into the savings account.

More likely they tried to get as many as possible to switch over to the portable pension so that when they terminated the traditional pension those that switched over didn't get the extra 4% catch-up credits.
