FedEx the FAA & alleged corruption

The FAA shouldn't be subject to political pressure and the influence of big players like Smith, but it apparently is. When I said that Fred called one of "his" Senators, I wasn't kidding. "Hey, Bob (Corker), can you give Senator X a call and tell the FAA to back-off on FedEx?". That's how it works. I'm guessing that an MD10 has a lot of cycles on it, and that the airframe has a definite life expectancy. All of those ex-United DC10s were a real bargain..not.
Don't forget Trent Lott and here's a good one, Broderick Johnson ex FedEx lobbyist turned Obama Senior Adviser, the list is pretty extensive.

To sum up the allegations:

1) Fred wants his expensive planes to not be airworthy so that they'll crash and lose him a ton of money.
2) The entire federal government wants the same thing.

I like the part about how awful it is that the tails of the planes are exposed to the elements and how that's bad.

Don't forget the part where senators are making calls to keep unsafe aircraft in the air.

No, Fred wants to do the absolute minimum amount of MX possible, so he can enrich himself. Silly Dano. It's all about the money...Fred doesn't care about anything else. He'll take the chance.

This started out as a huge safety issue, and has culminated into a whistle-blower issue. I do not wish what I have gone through on anyone. As far as being an Industry wide issue, I can't see how it isn't. The FAA has repeatedly failed to do their job, and everyone you talk too has the same excuses why they either can't or won't do their jobs. And if you are lucky enough to find someone that isn't a bureaucratic drone, they mysteriously get pulled off the case and in at least one instance, the inspector was told he was not allowed to talk to me anymore.

Good luck with your endeavors. I think most of us today sort of get the picture that many things are glossed over for quite a spell now. Pretty much anything can be whistle-blown and if one has the courage, great. I think a lot of us have just resided in this is "business as usual". Everyone is out to protect A1. It's not right, but it's the world we live in.

1) For starters Dano the most expensive part about Fred's airplanes is the maintenance. Give or take around 3 million per MD10 per C check. The faster they get them out of the hangar the more they save. The more aircraft they do in house the more they save, not just on maintenance but lost revenue. If they can do a C Check in 18 days as they want, instead of the 35 to 40 days it should take with the same man power and not paying for vendors that is a substantial amount of money. Ignore safety issues and it makes 10's of millions of dollars if not into the 9 figure category. Just at LAX
2) It would be political suicide for many politicians to speak up against Fred. He is extremely politically connected. In 2013 FedEx spent over $12 mill. lobbying just on Air transport. They have dozens of lobbyists and firms working for them not to mention that they have a relentless team of lawyers.
His political connections go back to his days in college, if not birth. Do your homework. And if you do do your homework you'll also find out that your "Idol" Fred was indicted on forgery for a $2 million bank loan and shortly after killed a 54 year old man in a hit and run back in the 70's and walked away from both of them. You try getting away with that.

I understand you bleed purple Dano but this is a serious issue.
When doing major structural repairs, structure is removed from the aircraft compromising its structural integrity. The fact that the tail is hanging out in the elements is a serious issue. The loads put on the tail by wind and expansion and contraction due to weather can compress the lower section of the aircraft and buckle the areas that are compromised.
If when repairing the aircraft these areas are compromised it causes preload in the structure which leads to cracks and possible catastrophic failure of the structure itself. Which can result in a loss of the aircraft and the lives of the crew and the public.

Ignored safety issues can cost hundreds of millions of dollars from one crashed plane.

Hmm. He's so savvy that the 535 members of Congress, the president, and who knows how many heads of cabinets are afraid to do anything? If that's the case, we should let him run everything.

Do your homework and learn about the cases.

Dano, your comprehension skills are not too good. I will agree that the tail spends most of its time out in the elements. But it is not safe or legal when it affects a Major Structural Repair.

Yeah, I'm not too hip to all of the technical aspects of an airplane.

The FAA is, so I tend to rely on it more than I do others who post on the internet.

In case you don't already know it, Dano is a paid PR Rep for FedEx...a Disinformation Specialist. You provide facts, he counters them with PR spin. Known commodity.

Since we've established that you don't have anything to bring to the conversation due to your lack of knowledge. You should quit embarrassing yourself and stick with what you know. Sometimes it is better to ask a question than to give an uneducated opinion.

His knowledge of aircraft is nil. He has already embarrassed himself with his comments on MX.

This is what I know: you told us that the FAA will barely give you and your "knowledge" the time of day. If you're so smart, why don't they take you seriously?

Is that what the FAA says when they blow you off?

Dano you are a complete waste of time. Like I said stick to what you know. Before you make stupid comments try and educate yourself.
