The article is basically saying the same thing you'll find in a multitude of articles in the Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Forbes, Bloomberg, Reuters, Money, Marketwatch, and Investopedia.

Henry Swanson's my name, and excitement's my game.
The problem with this chart is that these other countries use Liters, not Gallons.
And their governments allow vehicles to have very small engines ( diesel ), that are illegal here.
Also none of those countries have billions of barrels of oil that they refuse to drill.

These are countries that are socialist and their national agendas have an interest in restricting the freedoms unhindered access to internal combustion engine powered vehicles grants their citizens. American ideals by nature should always lead to ensuring fuel prices are affordable to all.

"The differences in prices across countries are due to the various taxes and subsidies for gasoline. All countries have access to the same petroleum prices of international markets but then decide to impose different taxes. As a result, the retail price of gasoline is different."

At $100+ a barrel why are 9000 leases sitting untouched? Can you say big wall street investors?

Ramamurti said there are 9,000 unused leases that the U.S. government has provided for oil and gas production and, “people are free to use them if they’d like to.”

I have to ask, did you read the article?

Nothing about it should be the least bit surprising. Do you believe that the CEOs of American oil companies care if Americans have to use what was once disposable income to drive to work every day? Why would oil executives want to drive the price lower? It’s not really their patriotic duty or anything.
