Grievance worthy or suck it up? Holiday pay

5th yr PTer. We're typically a Tues-Sat. Operation.

I filled out my vacation/personal days/option wk days request back on January of 2018 for the four days after christmas. They were approved late January. First paycheck in December they were apparently 'cashed' out. Red flag #1.

By December the 22nd, I was ready for a nice 10-11 day vacation after going 13-14 days straight. So I wasn't totally focused on much else.

I know my supplement reads you need to work one day during that holiday week or have monies earned. Obviously I was under the impression that the option days would cover the monies earned but apparently I was just scheduled off.

I do have a voicemail from my boss that he would be putting me down for Saturday the 29th as an option day from Friday the 28th. 'Putting me down' vs what payroll sees are two different things I've noticed.

It's obviously my responsibility to know exactly what I have from here on out.

I also know the supplements have different cash out periods. I feel I could've just used a 'sick' day on any of those days and would have had Christmas pay. Just sitting here kind of sad and mad as the holiday pay would've covered union dues.

I'm also frustrated because for me to have health insurance, I need to have one regular day per week 'earned'. So apparently the week I was out traveling for Christmas, I wasn't covered since it was all scheduled off.

Worth the hassle over four Pt hours? Or learn from it for next time?

I don't care if it's just a dollar, it's your money that you're owed.

And this is an easy win.

Ask your Steward to get a copy of the vacation schedule showing you on vacation from the 26th to the 29th,

If the Company still won't pay you, grieve it.

Slam dunk.

I filed and won a greivance over $6....petty, I know but it was the principle.

It wasn't petty. that was money that was owed to you. Why let the Company keep your $6.

Where should the cutoff be?

$10.....$20.....$30......$100?

There is no cutoff. If the Company owes you money, don't let them keep it.

Call your business agent. He/she will tell you exactly what to do. My bet is that he/she will make a phone call and try to straighten it out without filing.

ON UPSERS, Time off viewer shows 16 option day hours 'used' on 12/1/18. Apparently it happened last year too but I happened to work the 29th and 30th, so I got holiday pay. That was 8 hrs in 2017. I'm guessing my supplement/region cashes us out prior to it being reearned on 12/31 of every year. My boss didn't seem to think cash outs or pay outs would happen like that, so the fight is on.

Interesting note, description of hours on paystub says ADJUSTME for 12/2/18. A year prior, it was described as OPT PAYO.

Is there a statue of limitations on grievances since apparently it all got tricky on my duel 12/7 paycheck?

I do have stock and 401k deductions that would surpass a mere 4 hr weekly paycheck. One rep may think I should be having a $0.00 check. But wouldn't that show up on UPSERS?

The hassle now seems less worth it as time goes by.

Nice. Just received a health insurance termination notice for the week ending 12/29.

I did return to work 1/2 and got a paycheck today so I should be reinstated. That being up in limbo for 1-3 weeks is terrifying.

What a slimy company. Union rep basically said it’s my responsibility to know what days I do and don’t have. By seeing them cashed out 12/1 and saying nothing for the next three weeks, fault lies on me. He believes I should’ve used option week days, which cash out on your anniversary day.

Luckily I’m relatively healthy , didn’t have appointments or kids on any plans for the We 12/29. They say a reinstatement may take up to 2 weeks.

I also see who has my back. Bosses could’ve called me and ask if I wanted to use a sick day. Instead they put it in as a option day that reverts back to a scheduled off since I didn’t have any.

So again, I’ll ask is this grievance worthy? Reps seem to think no.

The union runs the insurance.

If you have something in print (vacation schedule, approved request off form) it is an easy win.

If you have none of that, could be a little tougher to win.

If you're fine with someone stealing money from you, don't pursue it.

Your call.

Me? I'd rather try and lose than to have not tried at all.

That has happened to me before. Ups isnt suppose to let anyone on vacation, etc during the month of December. Payroll follows the rule even if your manager didn't. Nothing you can do.
