I successfully completed my job as a seasonal helper. It was fun. It's Xmas eve and I'm sore everywhere and lost like eight pounds. Once the driver and I got a hang of each other, my stress level dropped a ton and we were one productive team. I am thankful that I got to work every single day during peak and my driver made sure I got full day's work whenever possible.
Conscientious? Very much so, but not in the same way as the thread starter.
It was my responsibility to make reasonable precautions to keep myself safe, not make a mess for driver or the company but not spoiling some kids didn't even cross my mind. I used discretion and did things my way within reason but only when its helpful to those goals.
In tight resi where practically every house got something, the driver dropped me off with a few houses of while he delivered other stuff . He picked me up after a few minutes.
I did what I was supposed to do. Deliver correctly and quickly. Since the area I'm in got hit by a wave of theft, the extra time I did have went to make sure to protect the goods like hiding them from thieves, not kids.
Doorbell got rang as soon as I got to door, then I lined things up on porch so I can scan them up without getting rained on. If they get to the door before I'm done, they just watch me scan and wait till I'm done and it allowed me to finish the stop as "MC Man/Woman" whenever possible. If its the last delivery before the driver picks me up and he's not back yet, I told the consignee that there are xxx packages and to please sign. It makes me look like I give a damn while not wasting any time.
I'm not of those brainless idiot helper. I believe the helper board I used (Diad 4) has a GPS, so I'd prefer to utilize it in my favor so missing items don't get blamed on "some dumb xmas helper left it at a wrong house"
