Remember it was Ukraine that developed the very.effective strategy with drones. The Ukrainians have fought hard and have inflicted a lot more damage on the Russians than the Russians have on them. So much so that between more than a million fighting age men having fled Russia and the Russians having to resort to antiquated weapons, even WWII era weaponry, the Russians can't sustain a war that much longer. Because the territory they control is next to Russia they can hold it but can't mount an effective offensive. So what you have is a total grind at the front that's doing nothing but using up men and weapons. The Ukrainians, having a much smaller population, are vulnerable to losing too many men but can sustain for some time if they are kept supplied by the U.S. and Europe. But the Russians are too dug in to be driven out without major weaponry from the U.S. If we supply it and the Russians are facing defeat then Putin might go nuclear. Probably not all out nuclear war, but tactical nukes that would destroy the Ukrainian military and the whole country if he chose to. And put the world on notice that if they push him too much he might launch against them too. It's in everyone's best interest that a negotiated settlement end this thing. And both sides are going to have to make concessions.
