I have Alexa on and sitting right in front of my keyboard.
I ask her stuff all the time and then an ad will appear on Facebook, Outlook, and other sites that rely on advertising for revenue.
Log out of Brown Cafe and you will be served up Ads as well.
I pretty much consciously ignore them but subconsciously, the brain is scanning and 'specific' Ads will catch my attention.

Even better, I can (re)search for something on my phone, and my wife will start getting ads for that product on her Facebook account.

I noticed that for awhile but then they broke into my bank account and realized they're wasting their time.

Facebook groups however do let people with common interests discuss what they're interested in. When I was a teenager you basically talked about sports, girls, cars, school, tv shows and movies. If your parents were rich enough you hung out with those kids. Now can talk to people from all over the world about very specific subjects. Zuckerberg is super rich because he came up with a way to make that happen.
