Missing Sub

Keep this all in mind the next time you fly. All the planes have a "shelf life". They are only good for so many landings and takeoffs. At least they are inspected on a regular basis for stress cracks and such. But say they are good for 3000 takeoffs and landings---how do you know if you are on the 2,999th one?

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.

That fuselage expands and contracts every flight, metal fatigue.

nowhere special
Apparently around the windows in the passenger part of the plane is a weak point. The first commercial airlines had square cornered widows which stressed cracked easily.
Only the De Haviland Comet which was first had square windows. When they started falling out of the sky they figured out the problem and rounded the corners on future planes.

The :censored2:s at CNN were interviewing an expert about the whole thing. A former USAF Colonel who did a career in a fighter....
:censored2:ing morons!
The Las Vegas father and son who bowed-out said Rush had flown down earlier in the Spring in an experimental plane that had to land at a remote North Vegas strip because it was strictly experimental. That immediately soured the father, who is a pilot, and the son's questions were basically blown-off by Rush, who claimed the sub was safer than a helo. The father's assessment was that Stockton Rush was willing to accept far too much risk. Rush toured The Titanic exhibit at The Luxor Hotel with the Dad and offered a lower ticket price to entice him. No go.
Blancolirio, YouTube aircraft expert, sourced video of the sub being made, and observed (with many others) that the carbon fiber was being incorrectly applied like winding a piece of string. It needs to be cross-woven in order to have structural integrity. Plus, carbon fiber cannot be tested for flaws until after the accident and it has a limited lifetime due to the expansion/contraction cycle of external and internal pressure.
James Cameron, Titanic movie director has been to the wreck 33 times on Russian subs conventionally constructed out of metal. Apparently, Rush was lying when he said Boeing and the University of Washington had aided in the design. He rented tanks from the UW and Boeing denies having anything to do with him.
Accident waiting to happen. Kudos to the Las Vegas Dad and son.
