No, I believe it is a sign of young guys not wanting to get blown up in Iraq or Afghanistan. The Army (not sure about the other branches) lowered the education levels to enlist. A high school diploma was required but I think that can be waived if you score high enough on initial testing.

I was talking about the physical standards----had not heard about the educational changes.

"Be all you can be" has become "Close enough for government work".

The military is still an all voluntary force as well. So is signing up to drive a package car.

Agreed that it doesn't take a genius to clean and fire a weapon, but if you don't know that you might be deployed to a war zone like Iraq or Afghanistan, then there is a reason why said individual doesn't have a high school diploma.

It's a shame
