New Job

I have been hired for a Package Handler Job, Part Time, Perm. I have been through orientation and have been waiting for a call to start the job. It has been a month now. Anyone out there have any advice for me? Called HR a couple of weeks ago and was told I haven't been forgotten about.

They will call...eventually. Just keep calling every week so they don't forget about you. They like it when they see you really want it.

Some places do have seasonal summer drivers tho.

The Central Region does.

(b) There shall be a free period, beginning October 15 and ending
January 15 the following year, during which no employee can qualify for seniority.

once again, different rules for different locals

Yep.

In the Central, the seasonal period is November 1 until January 15.

Then the summer period is May, June, July, and August. Technically it's

called "vacation replacement", but a lot of people just call it seasonal.

What's interesting.... is you can be hired during both of those periods as

a permanent employee, but if not, the company is required to have you

sign a form stating that you acknowledge being seasonal. And believe me,

they have goofed and forgot to. It's been grieved and won before.

I've been around the block after 30 years. I'm not interested in being seasonal or replacement. On call.. at their whim..like a donkey. I was hired PERMANENT PT no forms. If that form does come across the table...I have no interest. Like I said I applied to fill some time and stay active and keep my SS earning $. Don't need the BS.. I hope it's what they presented ...

...and how many of us think the company wouldn't forge this document to present at panel?

It would take someone in management to be incredibly stupid to try.

What I have seen them do, is try and have them sign one "after the fact".

They lose.

I'm not trying to sound negative.

You seemed jazzed about the opportunity, and that's cool.

But, UPS management (and personnel dept) are known for being habitual liars.

If you don't mind me asking, what state are you in ? It matters.

so in the central, a preloader can only make book from jan 16th to apr 31st and from sept 1st to oct 31st? do you need 30 or 40 working days there? were not talking abort a part time preloader being a VCD (vacation cover driver) and not being able to make full time book during the summer.

I'm not sure, what you don't understand.

Read the Central Region language.

If you don't need BS, you applied with the wrong company.

Uh......no.

I am not leaving because of the job. I am leaving because I have met all of the requirements for a full pension.

Of course, I could stay and change my user name to @scratch—-he is the one who insists upon over staying his welcome.

Classy, Dave. I guess you didn't learn your lesson.
