New Video! Is the buyout even worth it?

Very strange

The only remote thing I can think of is the layoffs that are coming with the drop in Amazon volume.

Amazon volume was supposed to drop significantly after August 1st.

I read somewhere that it could be a PR issue. If UPS offered buyouts before they had huge layoffs, the public could be on their side. Hey, they offered buyouts instead of layoffs. What a nice company.

They could have also weighed it against paying unemployment.

Regardless they could have done this a little bit better.

You can live off the $50K easily for the time it takes to approve your retirement. And the UPS/IBT retirement does pay retroactively to your retirement date up to 12 months. Teamcare also says that they will retroactively cover you for the time it takes to get the paperwork done.

So you get the $50K, the missing months of pension and retroactive healthcare. And not work.

Also guys close to retirement should ideally not be living paycheck to paycheck.

Contract is legal binding, why violate it at this point for scraps. Very sketchy explanation on the portal. Not risking anything for my spouse regarding healthcare or going against the teamsters.
The buyout must be outside of anything legally binding if union lawyers are allowing?

Might be refreshing to hear some truth on the matter, but there's an election to win. Better to immediately hurl out platitudes and post "burning offer letter" pics on social media.

Read the writing on the wall, closed how many locations? Small centers moved back to larger buildings. No more Amazon to speak of. They are trying to move 20K drivers or they will lay that many off. If you have he age and the time why are you hanging around take the cash.

I just called Teamcare and they said I would have to buy COBRA from the time you quit until the time you retire which is $564 a week for the family plan! lol

Something to think about if you decide to leave. If you already have the time and age in to qualify for retirement health benefits it would be great. Remember you get kicked out automatically when you become eligible for Medicare, currently it stands at age 65 for most. That is under the Central and Southern…

This buyout was definitely poorly planned.

Who are they targeting and for what reason. There is definitely more to this story behind the curtain.

My guess is the low seniority full time drivers who are not vested (less than 5 years) and second on their list are the drivers with less than 30 years in or are under 55…

That’s not what they told me. Although you did say quit.

They said that if I started the retirement paperwork, took the buyout and separated August 31, that once the paperwork was done, my healthcare would be retroactive to August 31.

Let’s just say you don’t trust them. OK. Pay for COBRA. It will cost between $2-$6K while the retirement is processed.

Those that should already be retired that take the buyout will still get over $40K after taxes as a bonus to retire now instead of next year. Or November, like somebody wants to do.
