I had one cat (a silver Maine Coon) who had an auto-immune problem and was allergic to her own teeth. After many vet visits I finally had to go to a vet dental specialist who pulled all of her teeth except her front fangs. After that he was very healthy and had no problem gumming her dry food to eat. She lived about 10 more years after that.
