The oil filter in my Trailblazer is very hard to get to too. I usually don't change the filter when I change the oil. Not the best way but probably OK if you change the oil frequently.

2002 with the 4.2L straight 6. There is a cover on the bottom of the engine I have to take off (with one bolt) to get to the drain plug but other than that changing the oil is easy. Except for the filter.

Minor maintenance on that car was also called "complete overhaul".

I never changed the filter myself but will go to a oil change place sometimes and let them do it. It is just really hard to get to.
