I logged on to respond to a post from earlier and they're gone!
Anyway....schools get reimbursed (not sure if this is the right word) but they get federal money for attendance. I'm sure this is why they just close the schools in NYC for religious holidays - they wouldn't get enough money for expenses for the day with so many students gone.
