I saw on a travel show real shaved ice from Hawaii....guy has a block of ice and this old machine from the 40's which spins the ice and a blade actually "shaves" the ice... then you add real flavorings... think they were like 10 bucks but it was the real thing....

When I was young My sister had a snoopy machine made my own flavor with kool aid packets. The ice was chunky but when you kid ice size don't matter

It's actually a round block of ice and you turn the handle and the blade goes up and down and thin sheets of ice sort of fall off the block....pretty cool
