Now that Peak 2019 is history...

To my mind, here is the issue: Given:

1. The reality of 22.4
2. Year-round? PVDs
3. FedEx elimination of SmartPost
4. Hoffa retiring
5. TDU rising
6. eCommerce booming
7. Non-conforming packages blowing up

As fortunate RPCDs, what does all of this mean for our future. The world is full of examples of workers who lost out to economic change, who did not see it coming.

Let is not be us!
The only center I have heard of getting 22.4s here is Cheyenne and maybe Casper at some point. Someone threw around Laramie and Evanston but I doubt it.

Reality? Your post makes perfect sense and is logical. Unfortunately on BC you won't find much

of that. The kind of people who wonder what happened as the changes keep coming. That said,

I don't think there is room for UPS, FEDEX and Amazon. I don't know what that means exactly

but a high labor cost operation such as ours(like GM, ltl freight) is ripe for change.

3 questions:

1. Will the new 22.4ers gradually take RPCD jobs?
2. Are PVDs gone until Peak 2020?
3. With FedEx exiting SmartPost, does RPCD get Surepost back?

@scooby0048 what the hell is with your people out in Wyoming?

1 and 2 are easily answered by reading the contract. Also 1 is answered by the other 2 threads you've started on this subject.

3 is a little more difficult to say but also already has a thread devoted to it.

Please... tell us how you see these 3 things going?

You must be drinking too much. I'm a Masshole who just happens to be stuck in this state. Up until @Wyoming started posting a few weeks ago, I did not realize there were any other people in Wyoming. Just like my t-shirt says, friend*307!

1) 22.4's are limited to 25% of the number of protected RPCD jobs, with a weasel clause wherein the Union can approve an increase according to need demonstrated by the company. But from the general vibe on this forum, it doesn't seem like UPS is in a big rush to maximize the 22.4 position. My guess is it won't be a big issue until at least the next contract.

2) PVD's are seasonal drivers who drive their personal vehicles. Their use is outlined by supplement.

3) The contract seems pretty clear about the conditions under which surepost will be eliminated. Will UPS let it go without a fight? Doubtful. Will the Union let them keep it if FedEx drops smartpost? That depends on the case UPS makes, and whether other competitors start a similar service.

Yes- the contract is always honored. Lol.

I know our local will invest resources into shutting down any attempt to exceed the 22.4 limits. I'll be right there filing grievances every day.

And putting an end to Surepost would be a pretty big win for the Union in the eyes of the members. It's time for us to start winning again. Let's Make Unions Great Again!

They had 22.4s working Mondays here in the beginning. After all the grievances and double time pay the company quickly stopped doing it.

Honored ? That's funny.

In the past, UPS has always tried to squirm out of it from the moment they sign it.

If more members were involved and voted.... things would be different.
I agree with your view on involvement. Too bad you won't agree with my view that the union does allow many things to slide. I realize it is difficult for you.
