Dire Straits hit deemed unacceptable for Canadian airplay

Canadian Press: Thursday, January 13, 2011 11:47 AM

A gay rights organization is applauding the decision that deemed Dire Straits' 1985 hit "Money for Nothing" unacceptable for Canadian radio.
The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council decided on Wednesday that the song violates part of the broadcast industry's code of ethics because the lyrics include the word " :censored2:" three times.

Egale Canada executive director Helen Kennedy says it's the right decision, given the recent high-profile suicides of teenagers who were the subject of homophobic and transphobic bullying.

Note: you'll have to go to the headline link to see what that word is.
BC also has automatically censored it.

So Logic follows that we have to get our FCC in america to ban this song on our radio stations.

Klein, radio stations in the US play both the edited and unedited version of this song.

IMO the song would have been just as popular without the word in question.

When you understand the context in which the word is used and who it is actually aimed at eg Hair Metal Bands of the day, you realize the term had nothing to do with the contemporary use of the word. Working stiffs verses the pretty glam boys although Mark Knopfler was also poking a bit of fun at themselves too. Great classic video and that famous voice behind the chorus "I want my MTV" in none other than Sting. A little music trivia.
:punk:

And Upstate, Brothers in Arms with the word sold over 30 million copies alone. Seems to me someone north of you just have a bad case of brain freeze and is unable to think in full context and with some rationale.
