Is there a reason people believe it's a right to come to America? If we wanted, we could stop 100% of immigration. There's nothing that says we have to have immigration. I'm not suggesting that obviously, just making a point. There's this attitude that we are obligated to take in millions of people a year.

Should you shutdown all immigration this would place the current population growth rate to dip under 0.4% annual growth and in a consumer economy this would stagnate growth and thus stagnate the economy itself. Some even argue that the birth rate trends in American of the root stock population is on the verge of going negative (population decline) if not already there which will have the effect of shrinking the economy. The irony may be that the immigrant may end up being what keeps our economy going in more ways than we want to realize much less admit.

Agreed, but with a caveat. Full assimilation like Europeans did. A tower of Babel situation isn't going to work. There's so many not willing to even learn English. You want to come to America you become an American. What's the point of coming here but adhering to everything about the culture you left behind? That's what people have a problem with.

Knowing several Muslim families in our area, I am having trouble understanding this. They are fully assimilated and the one's I know are great individuals. It sounds more to me like it is you who doesn't want them assimilated.

Tell that to the legal permanent residents that left the country on business trips that aren't allowed back in the country. Their families are still here. The EO said at least 90 days. If there was no outrage and push back Trump would make this permanent. There was little thought put into this EO. At best Trump is wildly incompetent at worst he's just evil.

of course there are going to be people caught in the middle. those people would of been released anyways. now that they are done, you can expect it will be harder to obtain a green card or visa to go back and forth. I'm sorry immigration policy needs a complete overhaul in this country. personally it should be reviewed and updated every 4 years by either party.

You don't think green card holders are throughly vetted? It takes years to obtain one. The Iraqi interpreter that worked for the US military for 10 years was only released when the ACLU sued on his behalf. I don't know what the point of the EO was, but it wasn't about actually increasing security.

No I don't, I think with government they get lazy. they just approve them without going back and checking them. Also like I said when a new administration comes in everything should be rechecked and re scanned. it is the presidents job to order this, however these departments get lazy.

During WWII we did not accept persecuted Jews to immigrate to the US. As a result, millions were murdered by the Nazi regime. History is repeating itself now as many will be left to die if not allowed to flee persecution. This coming from the party of life?
Then after the war we openly accept some Nazis if they were engineers or rocket scientists. Think that often we have our priorities screwed up.
