Which was part of the US Navy ...
The Marine Corps has been a component of the U.S. Department of the Navy since 30 June 1834 ... and gets it's budget through the US Navy.
As outlined in 10 U.S.C. § 5063 and as originally introduced under the National Security Act of 1947, it has three primary areas of responsibility:
- Seizure or defense of advanced naval bases and other land operations to support naval campaigns;
- Development of tactics, technique, and equipment used by amphibious landing forces in coordination with the Army and Air Force; and
- Such other duties as the President or Department of Defense may direct.

Business hours are M-T 6 a.m. - 11 p.m. & friend 6 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Common misconception, they work closely together but they're a separate service.
The Dept of the Navy is not the same as the Navy (go to your link and read what it says right under the title), they are the governmental (civilian) branch that oversees both the Navy and the Marine Corps. The Marine Corps does not get it's budget through the Navy either, they get it from the DoD just like the other 3 branches.
