Yup - nine out of ten legislative initiatives in his '100 day Contract with America' haven't even been sent to Congress.

Knocking it out of the park!

Yes indeedy!

A possibility will be that this will increase the potential wealth if the USA market continues in current and previous patterns. Then make Soc Sec based on need which would include accumulated wealth.

I probably will not be around to see this ultimate effect to lessen Central Government expenditures.

I do hope that I am retired by the time this takes effect, if it indeed becomes law.

One of the primary reasons that I have a 401k is for the tax break.

What's next----the mortgage interest deduction?

So take away benefits we paid for (SS) because we were smart enough to save and plan ahead?

I'd like to see an option of either taking SS benefits at retirement or passing on SS benefits and your 401k and pension are tax free. Not sure what the numbers would work out to be but might be interesting in how it might shore up the existing SS program with little effect on actual tax revenue lost. Again, I've not looked at actual numbers but just an idea that could benefit many all the way around. I'd even be willing to leave money on the table to not have to file an income tax return.

Just watched the press conference.

Tax brackets reduced from 7 to 3.

Standard deduction doubled.

First $24K of gross income for married couples tax exempt.

Mortgage interest and charitable deductions remain--all other deductions eliminated, including 401k and student loan interest.

As always there will be winners and losers. It sounds like a good attempt to simplify tax codes a bit but I see little chance of it making it through Congress without some special interest groups getting more tax breaks.
