profound lyrics

ajblakejr

Age quod agis
There are people in your life who've come and gone
They let you down and hurt your pride
Better put it all behind you; life goes on
You keep carryin' that anger, it'll eat you up inside

*****************************************
Lord please shine a light of hope
On those of us who fall behind
And when we stumble in the snow
Could you help us up while there's still time

Well I don't mean to be complainin' Lord
You've always seen me through
And I know you got your reasons
For each and every thing you do
But tonight outside my window
There's a lonesome mournful sound
And I just can't keep from thinkin'
'Bout the ones the wolves pull down

It's when the body at the bottom,
That body is my own reflection
But it ain't hip to sink that low
Unless you're gonna make a resurrection
They're always gonna come to your door
They're gonna say, "It's just a routine inspection"
But what you get when you open your door
What you get is just another injection
And there's always gonna be one more
With just a little bit less until the next one
They wait in shadows and steal the light from your eyes
To them vision's just some costly infection
But listen, you should come with me
I'm the fire, I'm the fire's reflection
I'm just a constant warning to take the other direction

Mister, I am your connection

Forever And Almost Always lyrics
Songwriters: Voegele, Kate Elizabeth;
So the story goes on down the less traveled road
It's a variation on the one I was told
And although it's not the same it's awful close

In an ordinary fairytale land
There's a promise of a perfect happy end
And I imagine heaven just sort of that, it's better than nothing

So you'll be mine forever and almost always
And I'll be fine, just love me when you can, yeah
And I'll wait patiently
I'll wake up every day just hoping that you still care

In the corner of my mind I know to well
That surely even I deserve the best
But instead of leaving I just put the issue to bed and out of my head

And just when I believe you've changed for good
Well you go and prove me wrong just like I knew you would
When I've run out of second chances you give me that look
And you're off the hook

Because you're mine forever and almost always
Well I'm fine, just love me when you can
And I'll wait patiently
I'll wake up everyday just hoping that you still care

What am I still doing here?
It's all becoming so clear

You'll be mine forever and almost always
It ain't right to just love me when you can
I won't wait patiently
Or wake up everyday just hoping that you'll still care

Forever and almost always
No, it ain't right to just love me when you can baby
Ain't gonna wait patiently
I won't wake up everyday just hoping that you'll still care

My shadow's
shedding skin and
I've been picking
Scabs again.
I'm down
Digging through
My old muscles
Looking for a clue.
I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own confused
And insecure delusions
For a piece to cross me over
Or a word to guide me in.
I wanna feel the changes coming down.
I wanna know what I've been hiding in
My shadow.
Change is coming through my shadow.
My shadow's shedding skin
I've been picking
My scabs again.
I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own chaotic
And insecure delusions.
I wanna feel the change consume me,
Feel the outside turning in.
I wanna feel the metamorphosis and
Cleansing I've endured within
My shadow
Change is coming.
Now is my time.
Listen to my muscle memory.
Contemplate what I've been clinging to.
Forty-six and two ahead of me.
I choose to live and to
Grow, take and give and to
Move, learn and love and to
Cry, kill and die and to
Be paranoid and to
Lie, hate and fear and to
Do what it takes to move through.
I choose to live and to
Lie, kill and give and to
Die, learn and love and to
Do what it takes to step through.
See my shadow changing,
Stretching up and over me.
Soften this old armor.
Hoping I can clear the way
By stepping through my shadow,
Coming out the other side.
Step into the shadow.
Forty six and two are just ahead of me.

i hurt myself today
to see if i still feel
i focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but i remember everything

what have i become?
my sweetest friend
everyone i know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire of dirt
i will let you down
i will make you hurt

i wear my crown of ****
on my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
i cannot repair
beneath the stain of time
the feeling disappears
you are someone else
i am still right here

what have i become?
my sweetest friend
everyone i know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire of dirt
i will let you down
i will make you hurt

if i could start again
a million miles away
i would keep myself
i would find a way

NIN....Some actually prefer Johnny Cash's version.
I like them both, but NIN's better

Here we come, walkin'
Down the street.
We get the funniest looks from
Ev'ry one we meet.
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees

:wink2::happy-very:

Hey, don't laugh because it was of these guys in Charlotte NC that I got to see Jimi Hendrix!

Cach, good call on Behind Blue Eyes. Who's Next is an alltime great classic in rock music. If you ever get the chance to watch on VH-1, the Classic Album program on the album Who's Next, watch it. Well worth the time.

In celebration of 40 years hence:

Here's a great one from 1969'

The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
And laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying.

Between the iron gates of fate,
The seeds of time were sown,
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known;
Knowledge is a deadly friend
When no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
And laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying.

And another fav of mine from 69'

Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope
Like good Christians, some would burn the witches
Later some got slaves to gather riches

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

And once the ties with the crown had been broken
Westward in saddle and wagon it went
And 'til the railroad linked ocean to ocean
Many the lives which had come to an end
While we bullied, stole and bought our a homeland
We began the slaughter of the red man

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

The blue and grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war over
They stuffed it just like a hog

And though the past has it's share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But it's protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it's a monster and will not obey

(Suicide)
The spirit was freedom and justice
And it's keepers seem generous and kind
It's leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won't pay it no mind
'Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
And now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it's all just an echo of what they've been told
Yeah, there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watchin'

Our cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin' the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can't understand
We don't know how to mind our own business
'Cause the whole worlds got to be just like us
Now we are fighting a war over there
No matter who's the winner
We can't pay the cost
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watching

(America)
America where are you now?
Don't you care about your sons and daughters?
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster

I like Cash's version better. He lived it before the NIN kids were born. Even Trent Reznor said, "....the song isn't mine anymore". The video's awesome! You see cash as a younger man, his wife is in it. She had died a short time before the video was made, and he a short time after.

Speaking of the Who: I was going to post some lyrics from Quadrophenia but thought against it since I would have to post the whole album! That album speaks volumes to all of us who felt alone, alienated and confused at times as a teen.

The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams...

Good call on the King Crimson lyrics. Another album I really like of theirs is Lark's Tongues in Aspic.

Pkgrunner

Till I Collapse
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Both albums you mentioned are excellent. And I see Pkgrunner posted Wish You Were Here, another goodie (RIP Syd). Profound lyrics are found all across the music spectrum and it just depends on the person as to who they speak too and what they say!

All this made me realize that 38 years ago about this time of year (late Oct/early Nov) in a 3 week span I saw Jethro Tull touring for Agualung, The Who, Who's Next and ELP for Trilogy and Pictures at an Exhibition. We had no idea what music history we were witnessing. Funny sometimes how in the moment that works only to realize later and then wish you had it back. :happy-very:

Here's one of my fav Pink Floyd pieces and why I think so much of it was this was all done before sequencers, loops and computers. Mostly it was done on reel to reel and then the tapes manipulated to achieve the various sound patterns. These guys were so ahead of the game IMO in so many different ways.

This thread has had some great lyrics posted. It got me thinking that music to us,for the most part baby boomers, had a profound affect on how we turned out as human beings. We're all still learning, but in those early teenage days ,your personality seemed to be determined(modified)? by the kind of music you liked.Cat Stevens? Black Sabbath? Bruce Sprinsteen? etc...
I'm going to start a new thread highlighting "the music that made you you"
or something like that...anyhow...we had a local band in Ontario called
" perth county conspiricy"
they were from the stratford area and were mostly actors from the shakesperian festival. They were kinda like ontario's grateful dead.
I always liked this, a poem within a song......

Go perfect into peace
Peace,mighty,majestic and molded,
mounted upon the satin whipped waves
of the heavens.
Roam in orchards of twilit apples,
drawn by a million vermillion stallions shadow appled
accross the fields of legend.
Go perfect into peace.
Go perfect into peace, grave and golden,
free of firey fury, bathed in the glowing tears of dawn, night washed, night wept

Go perfect into peace

A gentle reminder of how many grains of sand are in all our hourglasses.

Even tho' I know it's only
Me and my dreams
That drive me so let me go please
Let me go onto tomorrow
One day at a time
Now I know the only foe is time

22,000 days, 22,000 days it's not alot,
It's all you got 22,000 days
22,000 nights, 22,000 nights, it's all you know
So start the show and this time
Feel the flow and get it right

Now the time when I first saw you is over and gone
Then I knew my life with you would go on
Knowing you so much longer
I've change in mind change for you
You have changed to mine

22,000 days, 22,000 days it's not alot,
It's all you got 22,000 days
22,000 nights, 22,000 nights, it's all you know
So start the show and this time
Feel the flow and get it right

Everybody knows, it always shows
Wasting time's an aggravation
Got no time for confrontation
You want to take a lot
By love by law or stealth
Time's the only real wealth you have got

Even tho' I know it's only me and my dreams
That drive me so let me go please
Let me go onto tomorrow
One day at a time
Now I know the only foe is time

22,000 days, 22,000 days it's not alot,
It's all you got 22,000 days
22,000 nights, 22,000 nights, it's all you know
So start the show 22,000 days

22,000 days, 22,000 days it's not alot,
It's all you got 22,000 days
22,000 nights, 22,000 nights, it's all you know
So start the show 22,000 ways
