i constantly shop for new insurers and bundle home with auto to save money.
Even if you keep the same company you need to watch out for rate creep. A little at a time but it adds up. They hope you won't notice but if you call them amazingly they will quickly lower your rates.

I just got my renewal for homeowner's and it's going up $500, along with a letter blaming the rising costs on all the payouts. And I live in a state not affected by wildfires or hurricanes, tornados aren't a big problem, and I don't live in a flood plain. Guess it's time to shop around.

My property taxes are going up $100.

You gotta be really careful with home insurance because these guys don’t make it super easy to understand their policies and they have all kinds of different coverages that are not written in plain English. You might get a cheaper insurance policy that doesn’t cover squat if you’re not not sure what you’re doing.

I have a really good broker I have had for over 30 years and she takes care of me.

Every new school project needs a massive indoor athletic facility with pool, and an outdoor arena, not to mention scores of staff seemingly unrelated to educational outcomes.
Every little po dunk school around here is putting synthetic turf on the football and baseball fields
Put down a new turf field at the middle school it gets used 6 times a year

The insurance on my condo hasn't changed in 22 years, still at $120/year.
I basically live on a rock in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
My town has the highest percentage of claims in the state, yet I've never had any damages.
Always remember that building on rock ledge is the safest way to do it.

thats why i do it because of the rate creep. some years back i would leave progressive one year , switch to someone else then come back to progressive at a better rate.

its getting tougher to do now because it seems you cant do a search page and compare rates like you used to be able to do.

My new company is Auto Owners that is regional and just in the midwest, and only through brokers so you won't see it advertised. I talked to a couple of people who had it and they were very happy with them. They had better rates than anyone else and unlike some companies pay their claims promptly.

I haven't had any claims in many years but I want to be able to trust them if I do have a problem.

Several other posters mentioned shopping your insurance around every couple of years. This is good information. If you think about it, the car that you insure as a brand-new car has a premium attached to it. If you look at your policy over 10 years, the cost for insuring that auto rarely goes down. If you insure with a different company, they look at the value at the time you insure it (let's say $15,000 versus the $25,000 new price.) You'll pay less in premiums when you switch over to a new carrier.

Another worthwhile coverage is uninsured/underinsured motorist. Cost is normally less than $2 per month. If you happen to be hit by someone who is carrying "state minimum" coverage (i.e. $25,000) and your new truck cost $75,000, it will make up the difference so you're not out $50,000 if your new truck is totaled. Uninsured motorist is self-explanatory.

Always check the AM Best rating to make sure who you are insuring with is financially stable and has good claims-paying experence.

yep I've never had a claim in 40 years and there is probably some luck involved.
insurance would go down in the early years as a reward that stopped later .
my wife was driving my suv one day. a guy runs an intersection hits her in the drivers side rear wheel.
we both have the same insurer geico at the time. the guy admits to the insurer that he was at fault.
my insurance still went up for the next five years. its a racket.
good news I'm with Eerie now and just saw my renewal they actually dropped the yearly rate by 100 bucks.
