You need to learn your place boy.

Speaking of money, the government never reimbursed my family when they freed your ancestors. I demand reparations.

They will suppress anything bad for business.
There will be another company that hosts it.

I was mainly talking about people who wanted to use government to intervene. That’s where it gets dangerous in my eyes, when government can start fining platforms for what people say on them.
If you read cloudfare's press release, they basically said a big part of the reason they took it down is because freedom from government suppressing unpopular speech is only an American thing.

This is basically big brother liberal anti American policies in Europe being forced worldwide.

Yeah I realize this, it’s the same story with China and gaming. Online games are starting to trend towards censorship in their games to appease the Chinese government and open up their market.

I interpret it as being more pragmatic because of the entire world's internet policies. I could be wrong tho. If 8chan was on my server I would have taken everything down. 4chan would have never had a chance either. That's just me. I have a teeny tiny little super small teeny tiny corner of the interwebs. If someone means porn or violence, nope. Message me, point it out to me and it's gone. I am old school internet.

Ya that was pretty much my take.

In order to operate in those countries they have to abide by the European anti free speech laws worldwide.

I'm suggesting companies who hold the keys to the internet should feel obligated to not suppress speech.

I'm not sure what exactly you're suggesting. Seems like you just don't care because it's something you disagree with that's being silenced.

Not at all, I’m making a distinction between free speech and business.

You think business should protect free speech?

Ok, I don’t see how that works.

It’s not ‘businesses’ responsibility to even get involved, except to run their business.

Why are you placing the hosting company into a position where they’re the arbiter of free speech?

Maybe I’m dense and don’t get it, but who cares?

I have no expectation that I could take out a full-page ad in the NYT saying:

‘OLD MAN JINGLES EATS MONKEY DK’

They wouldn’t sell me the space.

Unless they did, in which case, whatever.

Guy, the Internet isn’t the Wild West anymore. Legislation hasn’t caught up to this new (30 years old) form of communication (it’s made of tubes, don’t you know), but that doesn’t mean any idiot has carte blanche to post anything anywhere anytime and be completely free of consequences.

Or that a business has to deal with it...

I specifically said the business CAN suppress speech, and that what I'm talking about is whether they SHOULD.

Then you just ranted about how they CAN. Soooo..... I mean..... Cool story bro.

It will be fine

Of course they SHOULD. Business exists to make money, if they didn’t protect their fiduciary interests they would fail. That’s how markets work. Why would you expect a different motivation from corporations?

I already explained that.
Ttku.
The internet and the tech industry in general used to hold libertarian leaning ideals about freedom. Now they're being taken over by fascists and Communists from the left and right.

Power is being centralized and the exercise of control over speech and ideas will only get worse.
With this? Ahh the sky is falling! Evil communists everywhere!:beafraid:

There’s that SHOULD word again. Gee why don’t companies destroy themselves to protect my preferred political ideals? That’s a tough one.
